It is estimated that 500,000 people in Colorado are addicted to drugs or alcohol.
Prescription drug deaths have quadrupled in the last 4 years among ages 18-27.
This problem negatively impacts our families in all social-economic groups, all races, and all age groups. However, the most under served group is found among 18-28 yr olds. Colorado is part of the national “opioid epidemic”. From 2010 to 2011 Colorado ranked second worst among all states for prescription drug misuse. In 2013, 70 more people died in Colorado from heroin.

Arapahoe House, Colorado’s largest drug treatment center saw a staggering 15,000 people in 2014. More than 350,000 people in Colorado seek alcohol treatment each year, but did not receive it. Funding for treatment services has not kept up with the growth of the problem of addiction to drugs and alcohol in Colorado. Callie’s Backyard Foundation intends to change that.

No one wants to be a drug addict or alcoholic, but this doesn’t stop people from getting addicted. The most commonly asked question is simply- How ? How could my son, my daughter, father, sister, or brother become a liar, or more. How could this happen? Why won’t they stop?

The message is clear, join us in helping learn more by being aware and conscious of the issue. Our community can help with some solutions for youth in this cycle of addiction. Services and help can be part of the solution.

We are committed to helping youth find services.
